The Blue Trail

Programme Type: Film|Length: 86 mins| Cert:

Gabriel Mascaro’s wondrous adventure of a defiant elder fleeing an ageist society is a life affirming boat-movie that manages laughs and warmth in the face of calamity.

Set in near-future Brazil where the government prioritises productivity above all else, elderly citizens are forcibly relocated to remote colonies to make way for younger generations. When 77 year old Tereza reaches the mandated age, she refuses to comply. Choosing freedom over submission, she embarks on a transformative journey through the Amazon – a decision that will change her destiny forever.

"Centred on a winning performance from Brazilian stage and screen veteran Denise Weinberg, with support including international star Rodrigo Santoro, The Blue Trail is entrancingly unpredictable in its picaresque unravelling." Jonathan Romney, Screen International
